New Training Course in Portugal - Introduction to Mycology
In January, the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) in Portugal hosted the training course “Introduction to Mycology: Mushroom Collection and Microscopic Analysis.” The initiative was led by the TRICAFÉ II team and was aimed at ISA students involved in the project’s activities.
The session was structured in several complementary phases. The first consisted of a theoretical introduction to mycology, covering fundamental concepts regarding the biology, ecology, and diversity of macrofungi. This was followed by a practical field component, during which participants went outdoors for a demonstration of best harvesting practices, including sampling techniques, sample characterization, and procedures to ensure sample integrity.
After harvesting, the samples underwent macroscopic and micromorphological observation, allowing students to follow the analysis process in detail, from macroscopic characterization to the preparation and observation of microscopic structures relevant to taxonomic identification.
The activity proved to be highly enriching and received very positive feedback from participants, who highlighted the educational value and practical applicability of the content covered.
